Route 23 Reconfiguration

Power & Utility > Transmission & Delivery

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will improve the portion of Route 23 located in the Borough of Sussex and Wantage Township, Sussex County. Route 23 is a major highway that connects with Interstates 80, 287 and Route 94.

This project involves the realignment of Route 23 and the replacement of the Route 23 Bridge over Papakating Creek and an abandoned railroad in Wantage Township.

This project included a relocation and upgrade to the JCP&L 12.5KV system running through the town of Sussex.  In addition, the roadway was redesigned for one way traffic through the town to help with the traffic flow.
