McPhee provided all electrical work for the Cell & Genome Science building renovation and build-out at the UCONN Health Center Campus in Farmington, CT.  McPhee’s scope of work included:


  • Furnish and install low voltage cables, controls
  • Provide building grounding system
  • Provide raceways, cable trays, boxes, underground ducts, sleeves, and seals
  • Provide vibration and seismic controls, TVSS, surge protection
  • Provide a full arc flash analysis per IEEE 1584, coordination study, fault-current study
  • Provide lighting (Interior luminaires, lamps, drivers, and ballasts, emergency & Exterior luminaires with lamps and ballasts) and lighting control system
  • Provide lightning protection for structures and building site
  • Provide low-voltage transformers, switchboards, panelboards, wiring devices, enclosed switches and circuit breakers, VFCs
  • Pre-fabrication in McPhee shop of all receptacles and branch wiring for offices


The 117,000-square-foot facility houses research laboratories, offices, a 100-seat auditorium, cafeteria, and incubator space for businesses eager to commercialize stem cell science. The state-of-the-art building also boasts sophisticated technologies, including highly-specialized imaging equipment; three-dimensional, laser-based microscopes; a major data center and super-computers; and next-generation sequencers.
