As part of its HH2020 master plan, Hartford HealthCare broke ground on a new orthopedic facility in October 2014. The Harford Hospital Bone & Joint Institute’s dynamic, sculptural form expresses the hospital’s aim to become the leading institution in comprehensive musculoskeletal care for the northeast region while addressing the hospital’s need for increased ICU, operating room, and private patient room spaces.

McPhee is providing all electrical work for the construction of the Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital, a five-story inpatient building with 130,000 square feet of space being built on a vacant lot nearby to the current Hartford Hospital campus.  The facility was designed and is being built to the orthopedic motto, “Life in Motion.”

McPhee is providing the following scope of work:

  • Installation of complete equipment grounding system per NEC requirements
  • Provide connections to HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Automatic Temperature Control, General Contractor and Owner furnished equipment
  • Furnish and install all power wiring connections and conduit (120 volt) as required for alarm panels and metering devices
  • Furnish and install necessary seismic restraints for electrical equipment in accordance with the Connecticut State Building Code
  • Furnish and install vibration isolation materials and equipment to eliminate excessive noise and vibration from building electrical systems
  • Complete power system studies including short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis studies
  • Provide electrical acceptance testing per NETA standards
  • Provide through-penetration firestop systems
  • Furnish and install a complete lighting control system & lighting, isolated power system equipment, a three phase, on-line, solid state Uninterruptible Power System, complete lightning protection system, surge protective device system,
  • Furnish and install all low voltage distribution equipment for new building and renovated areas of the existing building
  • Furnish a Life Safety, Critical, and Equipment power generation and automatic transfer system
  • Furnish and install a new microprocessor based, fire alarm, detection and emergency communications system and in-building two-way radio enhancement system operating on Hartford Fire Department frequencies
